Our faith community has never been contained by the walls of our church. You will find our members expressing their faith through action every where you look - down the street or halfway around the world.
A group of women meet monthly to sew cloth diapers made from recycled t-shirts and flannel. These are shipped to various parts of the world where the need is great. Most get distributed through the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. Some have gone to Haiti and Jamaica. Over the five years since they've been making them, several thousand have been sent out.
The Diaper Mission group holds work days on the second Tuesday of each month, October through May, from 2:00-5:30 pm in the lower level of the Clothes Closet, 112 S. Broadway, Wells. Kits may be taken home to sew, as well. Anyone is welcome to come and join in.
The youth of Open Doors UMC have been having fun handing out RAK bags (bags of goodies with a note of kindness) to unsuspecting individuals in the local towns and while on mission trips. The real enjoyment is seeing the reactions from people when they receive this simple act of kindness. It brightens up everyone's day!
Open Doors conducts a shoebox drive every November for Samaritan's Purse and is a drop-off spot for the community. Collections happen all year long, though, as we gather various items to include in shoebox gifts. For instructions on putting together an Operation Christmas Child shoebox, click here. The 2017 deadline for receiving boxes at Open Doors UMC-Wells is November 19.
There is a youth/adult mission trip planned every summer. In July, 2017, a group of 21 went to Chetek, WI, to help clean up after a tornado. Other trips have been to Duluth, Des Moines, Sioux Falls, Memphis, Colorado Springs, and every three years a trip to Jamaica.
Mission trips are a wonderful experience! If you have any questions, contact Sandy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
