The UMW-Wells unit meets the first Wednesday of each month; and the UMW-Kiester unit meets the third Thursday of the month; February through May, and September through December.
The budget includes our pledge to mission and Emma Norton Services. We financially support our Vacation Bible School, youth camperships, youth mission trips, the church "Love Fund", Wells Area Food Shelf, and Kiester Food Pantry. We send gifts at Christmas for those at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, and we also collect Campbell soup labels for the McCurdy School in New Mexico for them to purchase school equipment. We continue to support Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, the Susannah Wesley Community Center in Hawaii, and Compatible Technology International (CTI). CTI is headquartered in St. Paul and have been helping people in developing countries pull themselves out of extreme poverty and hunger. By designing and distributing life saving food and water devices, CTI provides the world's poorest populations with the tools they need to feed and support themselves.
We serve the lunch for the funerals in our churches and send out greeting cards to members in the hospital, college students, and missionaries.
The Kiester UMW unit crotchets or knits Prayer Shawls that are available as gifts to individuals for joys or if in need of comforting. There are prayers that go with each shawl and even as they are being worked on, prayers are being said. If someone would like a prayer shawl, contact Wendy Nickel or LaVonne Swearingen. They are on display at the Kiester Campus.
Caring Connections' mission is to visit homebound and elderly and offer support with prayer and Christian fellowship, and to grow in understanding of our own faith through prayer and a varied program. Caring Connections meet twice a month, rotating locations between senior housing, assisted living and nursing homes.
Our extensive adult library has many books and magazines on many current issues. The United Methodist Women units actively add to the collection each year with current books from the United Methodist Women's Reading Program. A children's library cart (Wells site) includes a wide selection of books and DVDs for the youngest readers to jr. high and families.
