Brothers and Sister in Christ,
I am writing to you today to let you know about what is going on with Open Doors UMC with the coronavirus (Covid-19) being labeled a global pandemic. Firstly, now is not a time for panic but it is a time for taking precautions that will help to stop the spread of the virus. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has asked that there be no gatherings over 50 people for as many as 8 weeks and in response, the Bishop has requested that we cancel all in-person activities, including Sunday worship, through the end of March. The only exceptions right now at Open Doors is coffee on Tuesdays, if The Bean is open and our Ad Council and team meetings later in the week. We will be practicing social distancing as we always try to follow the rule of causing no harm. This means that at the soonest, we will start activates again Wednesday, April 1st, and that may be subject to change.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t connect with your church during this time. We will still record the Sunday message and prayers and that will play as usual on Bevcomm cable channel 7: Mondays 11am, 6pm and Tuesday at 8pm. For those connected with Facebook, I will also be posting the sermon on Facebook Live.. The DVD of the recording that is used for Bevcomm will be available in the library. We will be exploring more options going forward..
I am also asking that you please still support you church during this time. We have online giving options, and you can also mail a check into the office. We will need your help to weather this storm just as you will all need each other as the days go on especially depending on how this virus spreads.
Lastly, I want to say that I will be praying for you all and as the Open Doors family, we must remain strong and lean on each other. I ask that you check on people you know who may be vulnerable or isolated during this time. You can call or send a letter or any way you can to make sure they are ok and know that they are loved. Be safe my friends, and know that the wind and wave still know the voice of Christ who walked among us.
"I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!” –John 16:33
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Chris Leistra
