Pastor Paul Woolverton

"A Way Through the Wilderness: Growing in Faith when Life is Hard"
by Rob Renfroe

In the Scriptures we see that often God’s people went through a wilderness experience, and these experiences changed them in profound ways. The truth is that it’s impossible to go through the wilderness without being changed. There’s a way through the wilderness that can leave us broken and bitter and far away from God. But there’s another way through—God’s way—that leaves us with a deeper faith and draws us closer to God than we ever imagined.
In this six-week study, Rob Renfroe explores the wilderness experience – what it is, how we get there, why God allows it, and how we can get through it God’s way so that we learn the lessons he has for us, lessons that can be learned only in the desolate seasons of life when we are totally dependent on God.  You’ll discover how the wilderness can become a spiritual training ground God uses to deepen your trust in him, remake your character into the image of his Son, and prepare you to bring hope, healing, and life to others who are hurting.

There is a study book that can accompany this study for those who wish, and can be ordered through Cokesbury or other Christian book stores.  Cokesbury has the book for $9.99.  (ISBN-13: 978-1-5018-0095-5)
Pastor Paul hopes to have us understand through this study how our own wilderness experiences help us better relate to Jesus’ time in the wilderness, as well as his “holy week” journey.  We will begin this study on Feb. 14:
   · at our Kiester site, at 12:30pm following the luncheon
   · at our Wells site 5:45-6:45pm

J.D. Walt, author of Sower-in-Chief, Seedbed, says this about the study:
Rob Renfroe invites us on the unconventional and counterintuitive journey of embracing our wilderness seasons for all they are worth.  With the heart of a pastor and the nerve of a prophet, he leads us to Jesus, who alone transforms the mess of our lives into the miracle of his love.
