Children and Youth

Service, Faith, and FUN!  Our children and youth ministries strive to bring our mission and faith alive for our young people.  We also love to get together JUST FOR FUN!

Children's Ministry Matters! Read 68 reasons why.

Pioneer Clubs®

We offer the Pioneer Clubs program for all kids in grades 1-6, which meet Wednesdays after school, 3:15-5:00 pm, September thru May.

Pioneer Club is a weekly Christ-centered program that helps children grow as whole persons and learn to make Christ the Lord in every aspect of their life. Club members take part and earn badges in the areas of Arts & Communications; Myself, My Family & Others; Hobbies & Projects; Outdoors & Nature; and Sports & Games. In Bible Explorations, children learn about God's love, Christian values, and how to apply the Bible to everyday life. The material is non-denominational.

USC town buses make a stop at Open Doors UMC for children's convenience and safety. For more information about what Pioneer Clubs is and how it helps children grow as whole person, click here. Registrations are being accepted now for the 2019/2020 year.

Mission Kids

Mission Kids is for everyone in 1st through 12th grade. We meet usually on the second Thursday of the month after school from 3:15-5:00. We do a variety of hands-on mission activities such as: bake cookies for shut-ins, sew bibs or gifts for Operation Christmas Child, do random acts of kindness, and much more.

Vacation Bible School - June 4-7, 2019 - Wells Campus

All children age 3 (and potty-trained) through grade 5 are invited to join us for “Athens” VBS on June 4-7, 2019, at Open Doors UMC in Wells!

Travel back into Bible times and become part of Paul’s dangerous journey to share the truth!

Each day, the children become part of history as they see, hear, touch, and even taste what it was like to live in ancient Athens! They’ll explore the Marketplace shops, visit Paul, take part in games, dance to lively Bible songs, and sample tasty tidbits as you discover more about Paul’s missionary adventures. These experiences make God’s Word come alive with new meaning for all who participate!

The mission offering this year will go to Solar Oven Partners UMC, who organize, construct and ship the solar ovens that UMC missionaries, Gordon & Ardell Graner, and other mission teams distribute to people in Dominican Republic.

The times will be 9:00-11:30 am, Tuesday through Friday, and cost is $5.00 per child. Scholarships are available by request.  Click on the links below for registration information for the VBS in Wells. Registrations are asked to be turned in by May 20, 2019.

Youth Group

We are about building relationships, making disciples, and sharing our faith in Christ! If you like to have fun with friends, we're the group for you!

Junior and Senior High youth meet on Wednesdays at 6:15 pm during the school year. We extend our gatherings throughout the summer with fun excursions and mission-oriented activities.

Mission Trips

There is a youth/adult mission trip planned every summer. In July, 2018, a group of 14 went to Chetek, WI, for the second year in a row to do community service and help individuals with fix-up projects. Other trips have been to Duluth, Des Moines, Sioux Falls, Memphis, Colorado Springs, and every three years a trip to Jamaica.

Mission trips are a wonderful experience!  If you have any questions, contact Sandy at
